Are you thinking about
becoming a host?
Let’s explore what it takes to create
a successful homestay experience.
Homestay families are wonderfully diverse, including retirees, single parents, and couples with or without children. When you apply, we’ll ask about your family situation, proximity to public transport, any pets, and your preferences when it comes to hosting students. Our goal is to match students with families that align best with their needs and preferences.
So, what exactly is Talkabout Homestay?
It’s a cultural exchange where students live with a Perth family. They are provided with a furnished single bedroom, complete with linen and towels, a quiet study area, and, most importantly, a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment.
In most cases, our hosts provide dinners, daily self-serve breakfasts, and weekend lunches. However, some students prefer to purchase and prepare their own meals. While students are not expected to take on caregiving roles, they are encouraged to contribute to household tasks, such as maintaining tidy spaces and helping with dishes, just like any other family member.
Hosts should be prepared to engage in conversations with their students, as this is crucial for students learning English upon their arrival. Patience, curiosity, kindness, and respect are key qualities for successful hosts.
Remember, hosts receive continuous support from us throughout their Homestay journey, and there are no long-term commitments. If, for any reason, you are unable to continue, TalkAbout Homestay will promptly relocate your student to ensure a smooth transition for all.
